With my father's worsening health, including a stroke, incurable cancer, heart failure, and with my ever-more-difficult caregiving for him, it's been months since I've posted, here.

My dad passed away on Sunday, 27 September 2009. We are rebuilding our lives and I plan more activity, including here.

From a recent, Twitter post of mine:

vidaxel feels grateful 4visit 6/15 from bro Steve & sis-in-law Alex (en route fr FL to their new turf in Denver, CO)-went w/Dad &AA to chemo appt.

I realize that the newly settled minister at our church and Cherita (both of whom I deeply respect) may not like how I've shortened parts of that message to make it fit within Twitter's text length limitation.

My real point, now, however, remains to highlight my gratitude.

About our wonderful dog... his name is Milo; he's 3 and a half human years old; he's a Jack Russell Terrier; he's quiet and well-behaved; he gets along with people really well; and he and Zen'r (our cat) are getting acclimated to each other.

I haven't posted here in ages, and I consider this a baby step in rejuvenating my Living Action website.

My wife, Cherita, and I think this is cool...

What a Difference 90-days Will Make…

Shawn Phillips is the older brother of Bill Phillips, author of the 1999 best seller, Body for Life. Shawn is a fitness expert and author in his own right, and wrote the much more recent book, Strength for Life, which is our single favorite fitness book. I posted my review on Amazon.com just over a year ago. (If you find my review useful, I'd welcome your voting "Yes" for it, by going here and scrolling to the third review.)

Shawn also is a huge fan of both Nathaniel Branden and Ken Wilber, in whose writings I find value, and both men have favorably recommended Strength for Life. Shawn also has collaborated with Ken Wilber's Integral Institute.

The deadline to sign up for Shawn's challenge, for which no purchase is necessary, is June 1 - Monday - tomorrow.

Cherita and I signed up. We won't be perfect, but we will do better by doing our best rather than by doing nothing.

I've not yet fully implemented everything in Strength for Life, but I have made gradual progress living ever closer to its vision. From 6 months ago until now, largely with the help of this book's principles, I've gained more than 12 pounds with only a tiny increase in body fat (now just above 10% body fat and about a 33 inch waist). So, that means significant muscle (and strength) gain.

Rest assured, though, that the book aims primarily at leanness, strength and shaping the body smaller, and addresses women equally as much as men.

But you don't even need the book to participate in the challenge - Shawn is blogging guidelines as a summarized version.

I mention this in case it interests any of my readers.
